Kingswood Ministry

This year the Kingswood Afterschool Ministry is celebrating its 29th year in Ministry with local children in our area.  Kingswood pairs kids from a local elementary school who are at-risk of failure with church and community members who are willing to give one hour a week to help them succeed!

There are 18-20 kids in the program at any given time and each day they are picked up from school in the Garber vans. When they arrive at Garber, they have a healthy snack, a short playtime outside, a devotion or Bible story, a prayer. . . and then their volunteers come to help them with their homework. There are currently over 95 dedicated Kingswood volunteers who come once a week to meet with their Kingswood kid for homework. Our volunteers come in all shapes and sizes and range in age from 14 to 85!!

Our program does not just include homework, although that is a big part of it. The Kingswood children participate in our Wednesday night activities at Garber, sing in our children’s choir, celebrate birthdays and holidays, and bake pies each year to sponsor a child in Haiti. We also celebrate WILDLY any academic success the kids have!! The best thing about the Kingswood program is not just the homework assistance but the relationships that are formed between the kids and their volunteers, who serve as teachers, mentors, sometimes grandparents, and trusted friends.

If you have an hour a week to give and would like to make a difference in the life of a child, then the Kingswood After School Program might be calling you!! We are always looking for good volunteers! If you are interested, give me a call at 671-0280!
